New streamlined NCCAOM education verification process for UK acupuncturists The National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) is pleased to announce a new streamlined process for eligibility for NCCAOM certification for British acupuncturists graduated from acupuncture program approved by the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC).
BAcC practitioner members in good standing can now apply for verification of their education credentials directly with the NCCAOM prior to applying for certification, rather than having to go through a lengthier and more expensive third-party evaluation. One of the mandatory requirements for Education Verification through the NCCAOM is demonstration of 250 clinical patient contact hours within two consecutive years of practice (validated through the BAcC).
The expected processing time for the credential evaluation review process is under two weeks (once all documents are received) and costs $325. Once Education Verification has been approved, applicants are eligible to submit their application to sit for the NCCAOM certification examinations.
This new verification process is possible because of strong acupuncture competency standards in the UK (SETA: Standards of Education and Training for Acupuncture) established by the British Acupuncture Accreditation Board (BAAB) and required for BAcC membership. A comprehensive comparative analysis of competency standards in the UK and the US determined that the standards of both countries are verifiable and are substantially equivalent.
This new verification process was developed through a collaboration among the NCCAOM, the BAcC, the BAAB, and CGFNS International.
